Onyango has also officially notified the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA).

“It has been a great pleasure and honour to represent my country and I will always appreciate the experience and knowledge that I have gained while playing for the Cranes,” Onyango said in a letter dated 12 April, 2021 to FUFA President, Moses Magogo.

He said the letter represents his official retirement with effect from 12 April 2021.
