Hoima City Stadium Unveils its Crown Jewels: Sports Arena, Pool and VVIP Lounge

Hoima — The highly anticipated Hoima City Stadium, built to host games for the AFCON 2027 tournament, is nearing completion, offering a tantalising look at Uganda’s readiness to co-host the prestigious continental event.

Recent updates from the stadium’s official social media accounts reveal a stunning transformation from its initial construction phase to a state-of-the-art facility.

The stadium’s latest posts show significant progress on multiple fronts, including the main pitch, training ground, and various integrated amenities. Photos from early October showcase a nearly finished swimming pool section and a meticulously maintained training pitch.

The project, located in Kyarwiru cell, Hoima East Division, has been praised for its detailed and modern design.

According to posts from late September, the stadium will feature a range of impressive facilities.

A state-of-the-art sports complex with both indoor and outdoor arenas for sports like basketball, netball, and volleyball.

A full-sized swimming pool and running tracks on both the main and training grounds.

A dedicated press conference room, food and beverage sections, and an integrated business centre.

A “classic” VVIP lounge and a striking design that features floodlights, creating a majestic night view.

The updates underscore the rapid pace of construction and the project’s commitment to quality. The Hoima City Stadium is set to be a key venue for the AFCON 2027 tournament, a joint hosting bid by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

The stadium’s advanced features and timely progress reflect the country’s ambition to host a world-class sporting event and leave a lasting legacy in its infrastructure.

Plans to hand over the Hoima City Stadium to the Government of Uganda are accelerating, with officials confirming the multi-sports facility is now over 92% complete, after the successful installation of the running track, the last major feature of the stadium’s playing surface.

The 20,000-seater stadium is fully funded by Uganda’s Petroleum Fund, marking a major milestone in the country’s commitment to utilising oil revenues for strategic infrastructure projects.

With funding from the Petroleum Fund and oversight from the Bank of Uganda, the Hoima City Stadium stands as a symbol of Uganda’s strategy to turn oil wealth into tangible national assets, transforming Hoima into a modern oil city with world-class infrastructure.
