The monthly tournament, a flagship event on Uganda’s golfing calendar, drew fierce but friendly competition across multiple categories. Olowo’s steady form throughout the day earned him top honours in a contest that celebrated both precision and sportsmanship.

Speaking after the event, Stanbic Bank’s Brand and Marketing Manager, Isaac Ajiji, highlighted the tournament’s role in strengthening community ties and nurturing local talent — values that reflect the bank’s purpose statement: “Uganda is home, we drive her growth.”

“The Stanbic Mug series is more than just a competition; it is a platform to nurture the spirit of excellence and camaraderie that defines the golfing community in Uganda,” Ajiji said. “We are proud to consistently support this sport, which brings together our customers from all walks of life in a celebration of discipline and passion. Congratulations to Herbert — who also happens to be one of our staff members — and to all the winners for their outstanding performances.”

Uganda Golf Club Captain Paul Charles Rukundo praised the high level of play and noted that the event was one of the final rounds leading to the Mug of Mugs grand finale in December.

The different winners pose with their mugs after the September competition.

“The competition today was outstanding — a true reflection of the growing talent in Ugandan golf,” Rukundo remarked. “We had initially postponed this tournament due to the Clash of Titans event in Entebbe, where many of our members participated. We’re glad it finally took place, and even happier to see both seasoned and upcoming golfers perform exceptionally well.”

Rukundo also thanked Stanbic Bank for its continued support, emphasising that such partnerships are vital for developing golf in Uganda.

A delighted Herbert Olowo attributed his victory to hard work and perseverance. “This is a moment I’ve worked very hard for,” he said. “The course was challenging, but I stayed focused and consistent. Winning this trophy means a lot, and I thank Stanbic Bank for organising such a well-run tournament that truly brings out the best in us.”

Other notable winners included Michael Obalim and Steven Katwiremu in the Men’s categories, Berna Musanabera and Hasifa Karungi among the Ladies, and Kishor Datani and Jenina Nasimolo as the Senior champions. Peace Musisi from Namulonge took the Guest Winner’s prize with an impressive nett score of 68.
