The newly appointed Minister for security, Gen Elly Tumwine has urged all Ugandans to rise up and take part in ensuring the security of the country and avoid leaving it to the responsibility of a few individuals.
Tumwine made the call while speaking to the press on Wednesday, moments after appearing before the Parliament Appointments Committee for vetting.
“All of us should use the good will that I see to work together to better our country instead of doing it in a divided way; divided we have insecurity, United we have security,” Tumwine told journalists.
“There is going to be a good team, good coordination, working together and getting enough communication at all levels for the happiness of the people of Uganda to continue enjoy the peace and strengthen it using whatever we have,” Tumwine noted.
The General revealed that once approved, he is set to ensure effective information sharing between the different security organs in the country.
Tumwine’s appointment for the ministerial position comes at a time when the public was treated to conflicting reports between police and the rest of the security organs on same issues.
It should be remembered that before the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Edward Kale Kayihura was relieved of his duties, he had cautioned his surbodinates against sharing any intelligence information to any other security agency including ISO and CMI.
Tumwine who had appeared before Parliament Appointments Committee for vetting and approval noted that once he is successfully approved, he will ensure that there is good flow of information as well as coordination amongst the different organs.
“Streamlining information sharing is very easy, it is not the first time we are doing that, we have a good team to work with, we shall unite them and work together,” Tumwine promised.
