The inspection precedes the stadium’s official commissioning by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Gen Kainerugaba was guided through the state-of-the-art facility by Project Manager Mr Murat Altun, who highlighted the stadium’s modern features. The venue boasts VIP facilities, a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, contemporary changing rooms, an external training pitch, and a 2,000-seat arena with a basketball court.

The tour was attended by key government and project officials, including SUUMA Chairman Mr Selim Bora, CEO Mr Envar Sayan, Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, the Chairman of the National Council of Sports, and Hoima City Mayor.

During the visit, Gen Kainerugaba underscored the importance of maintaining the stadium’s high standards. He urged the Ministry of State for Sports and the National Council of Sports to ensure that the facility’s world-class quality serves as a benchmark for future projects.

The 20,000-seat multi-purpose Hoima City Stadium is a cornerstone of Uganda’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania. It is one of three Ugandan venues designated for tournament matches.

Gen Kainerugaba reaffirmed his commitment to sports development, noting that providing and maintaining top-tier facilities is essential for nurturing local talent and achieving international success.

The stadium represents a strategic investment by the Government of Uganda to enhance sports infrastructure, boost regional development in the Hoima economic hub, and ensure the country meets its obligations as an AFCON 2027 host.
