Nakasongola — The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force for its remarkable transformation, describing it as one of the continent’s most promising air arms.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony at the Uganda Air Force College, Gen Muhoozi reflected on the UPDF’s journey from a guerrilla movement with no air capability to a modern force with growing air power.

“What began as a force without aircraft is now on a path to becoming one of the best air forces in Africa,” the CDF said, urging graduates to pursue excellence and mastery of their aircraft. “Be the best. Know your machines, inside and out. Strive to rank among Africa’s top aviators.”

Over 500 personnel graduated, including pilots, instructors, aircraft operators, and engineers, marking a major boost to the professionalisation of Uganda’s air force.

In a firm stance against financial malpractice, Gen Muhoozi reiterated his warning on corruption within the ranks: “There will be no mercy for those who misuse UPDF funds.” His remarks drew strong applause from both graduates and guests.

Alongside the graduation, Gen Muhoozi also commissioned new infrastructure projects and housing units for personnel at the college, a move aimed at improving the welfare of the force.

Air Force Commander Lt Gen Charles Okidi thanked the CDF for his continued support and strategic leadership in advancing Uganda’s air power. Brig Gen James Muhwezi, the Commandant of the Uganda Air Force College, lauded the readiness of the graduates and acknowledged the CDF’s pivotal role in expanding the college’s infrastructure.

The event marked another milestone in the UPDF’s efforts to modernise and enhance its operational capabilities across all service branches.
