Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), recently visited the headquarters of the Algerian Navy and Air Force during his official trip to Algeria.
At both military headquarters, Gen. Kainerugaba was warmly received by the respective commanders, who provided briefings on the forces’ capabilities and discussed potential avenues for future collaboration.
The visit was a continuation of his earlier meeting with General Saïd Chanegriha, Algeria’s Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army.
During this meeting, both leaders focused on the forthcoming signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UPDF and the Algerian military, aimed at strengthening military cooperation and bilateral relations.
While at the Algerian Navy headquarters, Gen. Kainerugaba was introduced to the navy’s vital role in safeguarding Algeria’s territorial waters. The Algerian Navy, with bases spread along the nation’s extensive 1,440 km coastline, plays a key role in naval warfare, coast guard duties, and maritime safety.
Similarly, at the Air Force headquarters, he was briefed on the Algerian Air Force’s capabilities and potential areas for collaboration.
Throughout his visit, Gen. Kainerugaba was accompanied by a distinguished delegation, including Maj. Gen. James Birungi, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security; Maj. Gen. Bob Ogiki, Joint Chief of Staff Policy and Strategy; and Maj. Gen. Keith Katungi, Commander of the 5th Division Infantry.
The visit serves as a significant step in Uganda’s efforts to foster regional stability and security, underscoring the importance of bilateral military partnerships.
