Uganda’s Gazelles suffered a narrow 62-65 defeat to hosts and Zone 5 defending champions Egypt at Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

The two teams met again in the final of the qualifiers which concluded on Saturday, February 8, in the capital Cairo.
Uganda managed to overcome Egypt winning 19-18 in quarter one, 40-29 in quarter two, and 61-45 in the third quarter to seal the deal.

South Sudan beat Kenya for bronze
Meanwhile, South Sudan beat Kenya for the second consecutive time in the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers to finish third in the five-team competition at the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo.
A dominant first half for Alberto Carlos’ South Sudan side saw them run out 80-63 winners despite coming under pressure in the second quarter.
The win moved them to 3-2 on the year, while Kenya, the 2021 regional champions of the same qualifiers and former African silver medallists, finished fourth with a win over Burundi.
