The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has said security forces raided the home of Soroti District Woman MP, Anna Adeke, in Soroti Municipality.
The party says during the raid, FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat, party leaders and polling agents were all arrested and taken away.
“It is 3:04am: we have been attacked by security organs led by police and our president Patrick Amuriat has been arrested together with many of our leaders and polling agents,” the party said in a tweet.
The security organs allegedly confiscated FDC polling materials from hotels Avipoint and Elisha.
According to former presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, police and the military surrounded and invaded Adeke’s Soroti home from 11pm to 3am.

“They refused to open the gate; the home was teargassed and later broken into. FDC President Hon Patrick Amuriat, several MPs and others who had been in a meeting were arrested. It’s believed that polling day docs like Agent’s appointment letters were ceased from the home. This morning, most cars identifiable as Hon Moses Attan campaign vehicles were found with flat tyres. The real campaign/ election for Soroti now began!” Besigye said.
Hon Adeke confirmed the development and shared video footage of the alleged raid.
“Police in Soroti have broken into my house in Akisim. They have beaten, pepper sprayed and arrested all my people. They started this at 11.30 pm until 00.51am,” she tweeted.
Adeke was not at home when the incident happened.
The incident comes only hours before today’s Soroti East By-election which pits FDC’s Moses Attan against the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidate, Herbert Ariko.
