The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has protested results for the Thursday held Soroti East by-election.
The Electoral commission declared Herbert Edmond Ariko, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Soroti East Division.
Ariko garnered nine thousand four hundred Seven (9407) votes while his closest contender, Moses Attan of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), polled eight thousand seven hundred seventy one (8,771) votes.
Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate Pascal Amuriat garnered 125 votes in the Thursday by- election.
However, through their social media, FDC said that their ‘win’ was hijacked by ‘NRM a bettors. ’
“Without shame, the partisan & closemouthed @UgandaEC has declared NRM’s candidate,” FDC tweeted.
The party revealed that it won’t accept the results of the by-election “which was hosted on violence, voter suppression, ballot stuffing, voter impersonation and ballot rigging.”
The election was characterized by violence and marred by numerous allegations.
