Fatal Accident Along Kabale – Mbarara Road Kills 3

Three people have died on the spot following a fatal accident that occured along the Kabale – Mbarara road on Thursday. Several others sustained serious injuries, according to police reports.

The accident which happened at 7:20 am involved a Toyota Hiace (taxi) Reg No. UBA 274U and a Toyota Raum Reg No. UAU 460W at Kakatunda along Kabale – Mbarara road.

The injured were rushed to Kabale regional refferal hospital with serious casualties.

It is said that the taxi was being driven by Ronald Gumoshabe, 27, a resident of Kabale municipality while the Raum was being driven by Edgar Akampa, 27, of Rwakirungura cell, Buyanja in Rukungiri district who was traveling with his family.

The Raum contained family members who were heading to Kabale when it collided head-on with the taxi.

The taxi fell on its side while the front side of the Raum was badly crashed before it swerved off the road.

The three people who died have been identified as Jolly Tibahwerwayo, an elderly woman, a 3-year-old girl Itungo Arien and a one Edison Barinabo whose place of residence is yet to be known.

According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Matte, those who are admitted in hospital in critical condition include Eron Ayebazibwe the wife to Edgar Akampa, their two months old baby, Ariana Nyana and 15-year-old Agnes Koburunga.

Others are Macklin Atuhaire, 26, and another boy identified as Clinton Ashaba who were all occupying the Raum.

Police is still investigating the cause of the accident.

“This is a regrettable incident. I want to caution our people that we should be extra careful while on the road and drive as per the traffic rules. Otherwise, you will end up causing unnecessary deaths,” Matte said.
