Opponents of Uganda football champions, Express FC, have been revealed following a draw conducted in Cairo, Egypt on Friday.
The Red Eagles will face Sudan’s Al-Merrikh and the first leg of the campaign will be played between September 10-12 in Kampala before meeting for the second leg between September 17-19 in Khartoum.
The Ugandan side returns to continental football for the first time in 13 years. The Red Eagles last featured on the continent in 2008, playing in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Al-Merrikh are based in Omdurman and their home stadium is Al-Merrikh Stadium, which is locally known as The Red Castle.
Founded in 1908, Al-Merrikh is one of the oldest football clubs in Africa, and have won the Sudan Premier League 16 times and Sudan Cup 14 times.
Meanwhile, Express FC are currently in Tanzania for the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup which is ending tomorrow Saturday. The Ugandan side will play in the final against Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets.
