Explosives suspected to be grenades were detonated at the homes of opposition MPs Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, Bobi Wine and Allan Sewanyana on Tuesday morning. The two legislators who quickly posted on social platforms say they are scared of their lives which continue to be threatened.
Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine said this is the second time explosives have gone off at his home in a space of two days.
“Grenades have for the second time in two days been thrown at my house and exploded. Property damaged and no one hurt,” said Bobi Wine in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
He said at first he had chosen to ignore the blasts and other threats but “they are now getting real”.
“Let me announce to the whole world that these past days I have been receiving death threats on an almost daily basis,” he added.
He has been advised by friends to be cautious of what he eats or drinks, drives and whom he meets, he says.
The vocal musician and legislator attributes the threats to his stand against the proposed amendments that seek to remove the constitutional Presidential age limits. He is among the 25 MPs who were last week suspended by the Speaker of Parliament for perpetrating chaos in Parliament despite warnings to stop.
He claims he has received anonymous phone calls targeting himself and his family. “I have been told that if I don’t leave that thing a lone, I will just be terminated or disabled”.
On his part, Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana posted; “People have thrown a grenade/explosive at my home at 1:20am… need some rescue… I’m told the same has happened to Hon. Kyagulanyi’s home.”
These double attacks come days after similar explosives hit the home of another opposition MP, Rubaga North legislator, Moses Kasibante which vandalized his property. He had just been dropped home at around 2am from police detention following the commotion that he and other opposition MPs had caused in Parliament.
Bobi Wine who refered to the attacks as “cowardly” stated that “we shall not be intimidated.” He added that nothing will stop an idea whose time has come.
Police is yet to come out and comment on Tuesday’s incidents and investigations into last week’s attack on Kasibante’s home.
