Equity Bank Uganda has been recognised for excellence in crisis management, winning the Best Crisis Communication Award at the 9th Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) Excellence Awards, held at Protea Hotel in Kampala on December 4, 2025.

The PRAU Excellence Awards celebrate innovation and impact in Uganda’s public relations sector, highlighting individuals and organisations that have set new standards in strategic communication. This year’s awards carried the theme “Recognising Innovation and Impact in Public Relations,” reflecting the fast-changing, technology-driven landscape that is reshaping industries, including PR.

PRAU President, Irene Nakasiita, noted: “In this year’s edition of the PRAU Excellence Awards, we are not just celebrating winners, but innovators who have redefined what is possible in our profession through creative concepts that continue to prove that strategic communication is a powerful driver of trust, progress, and transformation.”

Equity Bank Uganda, in collaboration with Capital One Group, stood out for its effective management of communications during challenging situations, showcasing transparency, responsiveness, and stakeholder engagement. The award underscores the bank’s commitment to building trust and sustaining strong relationships with its customers and partners.

  • Young Communicator of the Year: Gaaba Lakel Maria
  • Best Event/Experiential Campaign: MultiChoice Uganda
  • Best Media Relations and Management: UEDCL
  • Best CSR and ESG Campaign: NCBA Bank
  • Best Corporate Communication Campaign: DFCU Bank/Capital One Group

The awards drew corporate leaders, PR professionals, government representatives, and media practitioners, offering a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and recognition of outstanding work in communications.

The Chief Guest, South African High Commissioner to Uganda, Solly Mollo, congratulated the winners and urged PRAU to explore collaborative opportunities to strengthen PR visibility and impact across borders.

Equity Bank Uganda expressed gratitude to its teams, customers, and partners for their support: “We are proud winners of the Best Crisis Communication Award at the 2025 PRAU Awards. Thank you to our customers, partners, and teams for your trust and support,” the bank said in a statement.

Sponsors supporting the awards included Bank of Uganda, NBS TV, PwC, MTN Uganda, UEDCL, UBC TV, and several other leading organizations, highlighting the event’s significance in elevating the standards of professional excellence in Uganda’s PR industry.
