The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd., in partnership with Buganda Kingdom, has today officially broken ground for the construction of the Kabaka Daudi Chwa II EACOP Stadium Buddu in Buddu County, Masaka City.

This initiative is part of EACOP’s Social Economic Investment pillar, with a strong focus on youth empowerment and deliberate interventions aimed at improving the social and economic wellbeing of communities along the pipeline corridor.

The Buganda Kingdom has demonstrated its commitment to the project by allocating 10 acres of land for the development of a modern, state-of-the-art community sports facility. EACOP Ltd. has also made a financial contribution towards the construction of the stadium, which is envisioned to nurture young sporting talent, promote physical fitness, and serve as a central hub for unity, recreation, and community engagement.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. JB Habumugisha, Deputy Managing Director of EACOP Ltd., stated: “This groundbreaking ceremony reflects our long-term commitment to advancing sustainability and socio-economic development. By supporting the sports centre, we are investing in initiatives that will deliver lasting value for the communities in which we operate.”

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, welcomed the partnership and emphasized the importance of youth-focused development initiatives, noting:

“The Kingdom cherishes collaborations that address critical needs such as youth empowerment. Through Kabaka Daudi Chwa II EACOP Stadium Buddu, we are pleased to work with EACOP to create a legacy of resilience, opportunity, and growth for our people.”

The construction of the stadium underscores the shared vision of Buganda Kingdom and EACOP Ltd. in driving community transformation and sustainable development in Masaka and surrounding regions.

According to EACOP Ltd., the pipeline spans 296 km, passing through 10 districts and 25 sub-counties. Of these, 7 districts lie within the Buganda Kingdom, covering approximately 130 villages across 4 of the Kingdom’s 18 counties.

The districts and their respective counties include: Gomba District (Gomba County), Kyankwanzi District (Singo County), Mubende District (Buwekula County), Sembabule District (Mawogola County), Lwengo District (Buddu County), Kyotera District (Buddu County) and Rakai District (Buddu County).

The Kabaka Daudi Chwa II EACOP Stadium Buddu stands as a shared vision between EACOP and Buganda Kingdom, aimed at fostering sustainable regional development, youth empowerment, and long-term community growth in Masaka and beyond.
