The East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) have convened a high-level joint summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to address the ongoing security crisis in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni arrived in Dar es Salaam this morning to join other regional leaders in discussions aimed at fostering lasting peace in the conflict-ridden region.

The summit brings together Heads of State and Government from both regional blocs to strengthen collaborative efforts in resolving the crisis and ensuring stability.

President Museveni reiterated his earlier proposal, emphasising the need for direct engagement between DRC President Félix Tshisekedi and the parties in conflict with his government.

“This situation affects all of us, and there is no better forum than this summit to address the issue,” Museveni stated, expressing hope for meaningful dialogue and resolutions.

The joint summit marks a significant step in enhancing regional cooperation on security matters, particularly in tackling the complex and prolonged conflict in eastern DRC.

The deliberations will focus on coordinated military interventions, diplomatic negotiations, and economic support strategies to restore peace and stability in the region.

Observers note that this meeting underscores the growing recognition of collective security efforts across Africa, as regional blocs seek unified solutions to shared challenges.

The outcomes of the summit are expected to shape future engagements in conflict resolution and regional integration.

The summit is currently underway, with leaders engaging in high-level discussions.
