Police in Mbarara are investigating circumstances under which a 22-year-old man was killed in one of the bars in Bwizibwera town.
The deceased was identified as Emmanuel Byagagowire, a resident of Bwizibwera town council, Rwanyamahembe sub-county, Kashari south, Mbarara district.
According to Police spokesperson for Rwizi, ASP Samson Kasasira, Byagagowire is a driver based in Kampala who had been in Mbarara for Christmas holidays.
Kasasira says the deceased went for drinking at Daphine’s Bar and Lodge in Kitooro Bwizibwera town on 27 December at around 11pm.
He later picked a quarrel with a one Kamu, a son to Amos Runyenyesa an LC I chairperson for Katokye cell who hit Byagagowire a bottle on the head injuring him and resulting into bleeding. He fell unconscious.
Byagagowire was rushed to Mayanja Memorial Hospital where he passed on Friday morning.
ASP Kasasira told SoftPower News that the body had been taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital (MRRH) for postmortem.
Police say Kamu is on the run and is wanted as a suspect to answer charges on aggravated murder.
The case is registered at Rubindi police station under CRB 407/2018.
