Dr Kizza Besigye is being detained in Uganda, according to a senior security source.
“He is in our custody over a serious matter to do with national security. He will be produced before the court martial today,” said the impeccable source.
This is after he went missing in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, according to his wife, Dr Winnie Byanyima.
“I request the govt of Uganda to release my husband Dr Kizza Besigye from where he is being held immediately,” said the UNAIDS executive director in a message on X.
According to her, Dr Besigye was kidnapped last Saturday while he was in Nairobi for Hon Martha Karua’s book launch.
“I am now reliably informed that he is in a military jail in Kampala,” she said.
She added: “We, his family and his lawyers, demand to see him. He is not a soldier. Why is he being held in a military jail?”
The opposition figure is expected to be produced in the Court Martial today.
It is not yet clear what charges he is facing.
