Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Team Uganda continued its strong showing at the Islamic Solidarity Games with three podium finishes on Day 3, as the country’s women athletes delivered standout performances on the track.
Rising star Charity Cherop impressed in the women’s 5000m final, powering her way to a silver medal with a time of 15:47.01. The young distance runner showed remarkable composure against a competitive field, securing Uganda’s first medal of the day.

In the women’s 800m, seasoned middle-distance specialist Halima Nakaayi added another silver to Uganda’s tally. Nakaayi clocked 2:03.14, showcasing her trademark finishing strength. Her medal further cements her status as one of Uganda’s most reliable performers on the international stage.
Sprinter Shida Leni capped off the day with a bronze medal in the women’s 400m, posting a time of 52.72. Leni’s performance reaffirmed her consistency in the quarter-mile and added momentum to Uganda’s medal campaign.

The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) congratulated the trio, celebrating their excellence and commitment. “Congratulations ladies,” UAF wrote in its message of appreciation.
