Police has surrounded the house of Senior Police officer and Buyende district DPC, Muhammad Kirumira in what is said to be an attempt to arrest him.
Kirumira was due to appear before the Police tribunal at the Naguru police headquarters this morning where he is facing charges but before he could leave his house in Bulenga, police officers had it besieged.
However, Kirumira locked himself up in the house as residents began to gather around protesting his arrest.
Kirumira says he is not willing to open the door until the Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima appears in person to effect the arrest. He feared that Police are likely to abduct him to unknown place.
Following his defiance, Police officers brought welding machines to cut the door in order to have Kirumira arrested.
His looming arrest comes a day after he announced that he had resigned from the Police Force due to what he called persistent efforts by the police administration to accuse him falsely and damage his reputation.
Police accuses Kirumira of neglect of duty, discreditable or irregular conduct, torture, extortion, corruption, bribery, unlawful arrests and excessive use of authority, offences he allegedly commited when he was in-charge of Nansana Police Station in Wakiso District and Old Kampala as division police commander in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
After he declared his decision to resign, Police issued a statement condemning his act as “gross indiscipline amounting to scandalous conduct” which “can not be tolerated”.
Police said his resignation was unlawful and that he would face the full wrath of the law.
