The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has unveiled the reflector jackets and identification tags that will be worn by the enumerators and their supervisors during the National Housing and Population Census 2024.
“All our enumerators shall have branded reflector jackets with an identification tag with a QR code,” said Dr Chris Mukiza, the UBOS Executive Director and Census Commissioner while addressing the press at Statistics House in Kampala on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
He added: “These Enumerators and their Supervisors will be paid Shs50,000 and Shs60,000 respectively per day.”
He said that tomorrow, Thursday May, 9, 2024 will be Census night.
“It’s this night that all census questions will be referred to. As UBOS, we have made thorough preparations to ensure a smooth enumeration process.”
According to Dr Mukiza, UBOS has made arrangements to ensure everyone is counted, including those that will be traveling at night.
“If someone is always on the road, we will count them from their buses, and we will give them a card as a confirmation that they have been counted,” he noted.
Speaking on the same occasion, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi, the State Minister of Finance (Planning), said all the questions to the respondents will be referring to that night (census night).
The first day of enumeration which is 10th May 2024 was declared a public holiday.
“I want to request that we all stay home and ensure we are part of the census. The day that follows tomorrow which is Friday 10th May 2024 is the National Census day,” said Minister Lugoloobi.
He added: “I want to implore all of you fellow Ugandans to fully take part in this I would like to assure the general public that all information collected during the exercise will be kept confidential and only used as consolidated data and NOT individual specific information.”
The Minister called upon every citizen to support and participate in the census 2024 by providing accurate information.
