Last year’s football champions in Uganda, Vipers SC and KCCA FC have Friday been drawn against Tunisian and Congolese and clubs respectively for the 2nd 1/16th round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
In the draw held at Nile Ritz Carlton Hotel in the Al Qahira, Egypt, KCCA FC will be the first to host AS Toho from Congo Brazzaville and Vipers SC will start the playoffs away to CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.
The first leg for both games will be played between January 11 and 13 before facing off in the return leg a week later between January 18 and 20.
Vipers SC were Uganda’s representatives in the CAF Champions league but were knocked out by Algeria’s CS Constantine on a 3-0 defeat on aggregate in the tournament’s first round automatically slipping into the CAF Confederation Cup.
On the other side, KCCA FC beat Tanzania’s SC Mtibwa Sugar 5-1 on aggregate to see a spot at the playoff stage.
Before the return leg against SC Mtibwa Sugar last week, KCCA FC tactician Mike Mutebi noted that their minimum expectation as a club is to reach the group stages, something they did in the CAF Champions last year, becoming Uganda’s first club to play at that stage.
