Buwambo United FC wrote their name into Ugandan football history, becoming FUFA Buganda Region League champions after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Simba/Uganda Wildlife Authority at a packed Buwambo Grounds.

The historic triumph caps a remarkable season for Buwambo United, a club widely recognised as a top title contender, cementing its place as one of the country’s most compelling grassroots football success stories.

For the past three seasons, the team pushed to the very edge of championship glory, and this year, a combined collective effort finally secured the ultimate breakthrough.

This regional title locks in Buwambo United’s spot in the FUFA Big League promotion playoffs, where they will battle Kampala Region champions Blackstars FC over two legs for a promotion to Uganda’s second tier.

In recognition of the achievement and to support the club’s final promotion push, Betika has announced an additional UGX 6 million investment in Buwambo United ahead of the playoffs.

This is the third time Betika has put resources behind the club this season. Betika invested in Buwambo United at the start of the campaign, then returned in February with financial support, match balls, training bibs, and a full set of branded jerseys as the team entered the decisive second half of the season.

The squad has gone the distance since: 67 points from 29 matches, a decisive winner from midfielder Abubakar Kalungi in the title clincher, and fans who filled the Buwambo grounds hours before kickoff.

“We backed this club before a single trophy was on the table because we saw something bigger than results. We saw resilience, ambition, and a community rallying behind a dream,” said Desire Akanduhura, Marketing Lead, Betika.

“This title belongs to the players, the technical team, and the Buwambo community. Our additional investment of UGX 6 million is simple: we backed them to get here, and now we are backing them to finish the job. Two games stand between Buwambo United and Big League football.”

For the club, the title is the result of a long season of belief.

“Winning the first-ever Buganda Region League title means everything to this community,” said Ssenkoma Douglous, Club CEO, Buwambo United FC.

“Betika has been with us from the first whistle of the season, and this new investment ahead of the playoffs tells our players that someone believes in them when it matters. We are not done. Our eyes are on the Big League.”

The playoff against Blackstars FC will decide whether Buwambo United leap the FUFA Big League, the second tier of Ugandan football.

For Betika, the club’s success reinforces a simple belief that the future of Ugandan football is built from the ground up.

Through its ongoing grassroots football initiatives across Uganda, Betika continues to invest in community clubs, local talent development, and sporting opportunities that create lasting impact beyond the final whistle.
