The political activist was arrested Monday morning after he attempted to leave his home.

He is currently detained in a police arrest van.

“Holding him at home will not solve the economic crisis we face. Muzuukuke campaign continues,” his Red Card Front said.

Earlier, Besigye was blocked from leaving his home as he attempted to resume his ‘Muzukuke’ campaign aimed at reawakening Ugandans to stand up against the skyrocketing commodity prices.

“Our leader Kizza Besigye is again put under an illegal House Arrest, days after the police and Army had vacated his home,” Red Card Front said on Monday morning. “Besigye can’t move out.”

Police deployed swiftly and blocked the road from Besigye’s home while he addressed the media on the economic crisis Uganda faces.

We are on our own,” Besigye told the media at his home, adding:”…and therefore,  must find our own solutions to the crises we face.”

The Peoples’ Front for Transition – Uganda leader announced the “Wake Up Call” campaign last week while trying to drive to the Kampala city centre. He was quickly blocked by police in Kasangati town.
