President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among upon her election as the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The announcement was made Wednesday, August 27, 2025, during the ruling party’s 5th National Conference at Kololo Independence Grounds, which brought together more than 23,000 delegates from across the country.
President Museveni praised Among for her new role and used the moment to emphasize the party’s principle of unity and collective progress over individual ambition.

“I congratulate the Rt. Hon. Anita Among upon being elected the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) for the NRM,” Museveni said.
The President also commended Capt. Mike Mukula, who withdrew from the contest for NRM Vice Chairperson Eastern Region in favor of Mr. David Calvin Echodu. Museveni hailed Mukula’s decision as an example of solution-based leadership.
“It’s not about who leads but what is accomplished. I commend the two leaders for going back to our principle of shared interest as opposed to individual position,” he remarked.

At the same conference, President Museveni was endorsed unopposed as the NRM National Chairman (2025–2031) and the party’s Presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.
Accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni, the President thanked delegates, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), and the National Executive Council (NEC) for their overwhelming support.
“Thank you for entrusting me to be your Chairman of the NRM for the period 2025–2031. Thank you for electing me as your flag bearer for the 2026–2031 presidential term. I will not let you down. We have got more capacity now than ever before,” Museveni assured.

Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo was also re-elected unopposed as the First National Vice Chairperson of NRM.
Museveni further congratulated all newly elected party leaders but advised them to focus on delivering practical solutions to Ugandans.
“Be the leaders who solve the solvable problems, and the people will love you. But don’t carry the population on your head. Lead them by using government resources, not your own money. This is where corruption comes about,” he cautioned.

The conference also heard historical reflections on Uganda’s economic journey and the NRM’s achievements since 1986, with Museveni projecting a leap toward a USD 500 billion economy anchored on peace, infrastructure, and wealth creation.
The day ended with delegates and international guests — including representatives from East Africa, China, South Africa, and the Saharawi Republic — pledging continued support to the ruling party and its leadership.
