President Oligui Nguema graciously received the Ambassador’s credentials and congratulated him on his appointment, noting that the exchange of diplomatic representation reflects the strong and friendly relations between Uganda and Gabon.

He appreciated President Museveni’s message of goodwill and emphasised that the cordial ties between the two nations are anchored in shared interests and collaboration within regional and international fora.

The President assured Ambassador Kaliisa of his government’s full support in the discharge of his duties and expressed confidence in the deepening of bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the progress made during his State Visit to Uganda in August 2024, which paved the way for strengthened collaboration in diplomacy, political affairs, agriculture, defence, health, and other key sectors.

He encouraged the Ambassador to work closely with Gabonese authorities to build on these achievements, foster regular high-level exchanges, and explore new areas of partnership.

In particular, he invited Ambassador Kaliisa to visit Gabon’s Special Investment Zone of Nkok to identify opportunities for Ugandan entrepreneurs seeking to expand into the Gabonese market.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kaliisa reaffirmed his commitment to promoting strong and fraternal ties between Uganda and Gabon.

He expressed gratitude to President Oligui Nguema and the Government of Gabon for the warm reception and assured them of Uganda’s readiness to pursue cooperation in defence and training, agriculture, health, trade, and other mutually beneficial sectors.

Uganda–Gabon Bilateral Relations

Uganda and Gabon maintain warm and mutually beneficial bilateral relations, characterised by collaboration in diplomacy, political cooperation, economic development, security, and regional stability. Both nations are represented at the Ambassadorial level through their resident missions in Kinshasa, accredited to each other’s capitals.

High-Level Visits

In 2024, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema paid a State Visit to Uganda at the invitation of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

H.E. Mrs Zita Oligui Nguema, First Lady of Gabon, also visited Uganda in 2024 to launch the Women’s Optimal Health Framework (WOHF).

Several follow-up official visits from Uganda to Gabon have focused on strengthening agricultural cooperation.

Trade Relations (2023)

Uganda exported products worth $612,000 to Gabon, including aluminium, iron and steel products, edible vegetables, cereals, oil seeds, machinery, paper, furniture, footwear, printed books, ceramics, plastics, and others.

Gabon exported products worth $167,000 to Uganda, primarily optical and medical apparatus, electrical and electronic equipment, machinery, mineral fuels, articles of steel, and copper.

Future Cooperation

Uganda and Gabon are finalising a Cooperation Framework Agreement to enhance collaboration in politics, diplomacy, trade, agriculture, energy and mineral resources, security and defence, education, ICT, transport, tourism, culture, and private sector investment.

This will pave the way for the inaugural Joint Permanent Commission and a Business and Investment Forum between the two countries.
