President Museveni has directed Ugandan heads of diplomatic missions and ambassadors to acquaint themselves with the needs of the country especially in the areas of investment and job creation.

Mr Museveni made the directive during a meeting at State House Entebbe on Thursday. He tasked them to explain government policies to the countries where they have been posted, especially to foreign press.

The president also cautioned heads of missions on the “huge responsibility to serve their country”, imploring them to be advocates on areas the country needs to add value on products especially in sectors of; Agro processing, services and tourism.

“The foremost Job of an embassy is to attract investors. The Ministry of trade should be able to give you information regarding areas where investors are needed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and that of Trade are tasked to hunt for investment opportunities. I am happy to note that there is a directorate of Commercial diplomacy at MOFA, and this is where heads of missions should report any opportunities identified from their respective countries so that these are handled quickly,” Mr Museveni said.

He added that missions should work with Ugandans in the Diaspora and also help them “identify suitable investment ventures in Uganda.”
