As pupils and students come home for their Term-I school holidays this entire week, parents have been reminded to maintain a healthy balanced diet, with an aim of boosting health and nutrition.

A healthy balanced diet is one that helps maintain or improve overall health while providing the body with essential nutrition.

The Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) through its ‘Teacher’s guide on nutrition’ mentions the consequences of poor nutrition for school-going children including delay in enrollment, absenteeism, lack of concentration, poor performance in class and increased school drop outs.

The ministry further notes that for a child to be healthy and learn well, he/she must have good nutrition.

MoES upholds that nutrition refers to the food we eat and how the body uses it to live, function and perform its activities or functions. MoES classifies key nutrients that the body needs as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, mineral, salts and vitamins.

Numerous research reports suggest that a balanced diet means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions including vegetables, fruits, drinking lots of water, dairy and its related products, and high fibre foods, alongside practicing healthy lifestyles.

Vincent Omoth the Marketing Manager, Fresh Dairy, noted that they have realized that Yoghurt being one of the products produced, it is a signature of a healthy diet and lifestyle for families especially now that the school-going children are back home for their Term-I holidays.

He encouraged families to blend the Fresh Dairy flavoured Yoghurt as part of their daily meals.

“We have even made it easier now for parents to access Fresh Dairy flavoured yoghurt this school holiday season by simply calling our customer care toll free line on 0800100020/21 or WhatsApp 0715744664, Pay from anywhere anytime electronically and the orders will be delivered to their doorsteps,” he said.

Fresh Dairy flavoured yoghurt is nutrient-rich with Energy, Carbohydrates, Protein, Fat and Calcium among others, crucial nutrients to support the body with essential nutrition.

Omoth concluded by noting that Fresh Dairy flavoured yoghurt comes in Cups: 450g, 250g, 150g and 100g, 400g pouches, and is available countrywide in shops, duukas, kiosks, supermarkets and Tuk Tuk agents.
