Police Yet to Confirm Death of Missing Case Hospital Staff

Francis Ekalungar, 49, an accountant at Case Hospital in Kampala is missing and feared dead after Police discovered a dead body burnt beyond recognition.

Case Hospital managers say they had sent Francis to deposit more than Shs 15 million to the bank but did not receive communication from him there after.

Police on Wednesday reported that a dead body was discovered in Kajjansi, a city suburb of Kampala a day after the Case Hospital management reported the case of a missing person to Wandegeya police station on January 2, 2018.

He was driving a silver Toyota Premio new model Reg. UAW 899U, on his way to the city centre, according to the Hospital authorities.

“When he disappeared, we informed the police and the Flying Squad Unit commander, Herbert Muhangi was personally involved in the search. It is sad and painful because Francis was like a brother to me and he had worked at Case Clinic for 21 years,” Case Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kato Sebbaale said.

The Doctor who sounded sad also described Francis’ alleged death as brutal.

“Francis Ekalungar was our Accountant. If he was killed in Kajjansi and his body burnt, such brutal death!” Dr. Sebbaale said.

A regular client at Case Hospital told SoftPower News that; “I first met him [Francis] when the clinic was 3 roomed at Bombo road about 20 years ago. This is very sad”.

But Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Oweyesigire told SoftPower News on Thursday that it has not yet been confirmed that the dead body found in Kajjansi was indeed Francis.

“We can not confirm that it is him yet, because the body that was discovered was burnt beyond recognition,” Owoyesigyire said.

He said that Police have already picked samples and submitted them for DNA tests at the Government Analytical Lab (GAL) in Wandegeya.

“Some of the family members said it was him, some said it wasn’t. His wife said the body wasn’t Francis’. We can only wait for laboratory results and that will take a week,” the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.

He said investigations into the death have commenced.
