Vian Musika the Renewable Energy Manager at  Ecological Christian Organization has asked government and stakeholders in the energy sector to embark on discussions that will ensure a favorable policies and what they can do differently to ensure a 100% Renewable Energy transition in Uganda.

In this call, Vian also called upon the private sector to bring energy services closer to the people and to work hard in ensuring that the different parts of Uganda get to know about Renewable Energy technologies.

“Civil Society Organizations also need to come in to ensure that there are sustainable mindset change campaigns that will ensure that people appreciate the benefit of Renewable Energy technologies” he said.

He further asked all stakeholders including the media, government, and academia to perform their respective roles in order to unleash the potential of renewable energy in Uganda.

He made the remarks at a panel discussion held at Ecological Christian Organization offices in Kampala on Thursday under the theme “Renewable Energy Value Chain for Uganda”.

National figures also show that Uganda’s access to the national grid is less than 20%, while 38% have access to off-grid solar electricity, which is mainly used for lighting and phone charging.

According to Vian, since humans can’t stop disasters from happening the time is now to adapt, mitigate, and do things differently if our natural resources are to satisfy our needs.

Anthony Wolimbwa one of the panelists noted that though carbon markets have some challenges if they are put in place they can help to generate money for investment in the transition.
