Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Gen Mugisha Muntu has conceded defeat after he lost the party’s top seat to former Kumi MP Patrick Oboi Amuriat in a heated contest.

In the elections held at Namboole stadium on Friday, Muntu polled 463 votes (47.1%) of the total votes cast coming second to Amuriat who got 641 votes representing 57.6%.

FDC set for NEC Elections this Friday

In his speech after the declaration by the FDC Electoral Commission chairman Dan Mugarura, Muntu, a man who has for long been spreading the gospel of building party structures congratulated Amuriat and asked him to prepare for challenges within the party management.

“I thank you colleagues and congratulate Amuriat. I am however telling you that, that the seat you have ascended to is a hot one”, Muntu said.

He further expressed his apology to the people he could have hurt during his leadership.

“Although I have not got an opportunity to lead for other 5 years, I must say that it has been a pleasure working with you. I want to ask you to forgive me where I could have hurt you”, added Muntu.

On his part, the newly elected President, Amuriat pledged to work with Muntu and the other candidates to move the party ahead.

“We need each other and I promise to look for all the people I have competed with and we have a discussion on the way forward,” Amuriat said.

Earlier in the day, Muntu had sounded a strong appeal to fellow contestants to uphold the spirit of accepting defeat like he had done in the previous elections which he lost to Dr Kizza Besigye.
