It’s Gold Again for Uganda! Jacob Kiplimo Breaks Cheptegei’s Record

Ugandan athlete Jacob Kiplimo has won the men’s 10,000m final athletics at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on day five of the Commonwealth Games in central England.

The 21-year-old broke gold medallist Joshua Cheptegei’s 10,000m record in a stunning time of 27:09:19.

“I am very excited….today I knew I would win because I saw the pace was a little bit slow,” AFP quoted Kiplimo after winning the race on Tuesday night.

Kenya’s Daniel Simiu and Kibiwott Kandie clinched silver and bronze.

Edward Zakayo, the 5,000m bronze medalist from the 2018 Games in Gold Coast, Australia, finished fourth, timing 27:39.03.

Kiplimo’s Gold medal becomes the second medal for Uganda at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The first gold medal at the ongoing games was won by Victor Kiplangat in the Men’s Marathon two days ago.
