Herbert Edmond Ariko, The National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, has been declared as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Soroti East Division.
Ariko garnered nine thousand four hundred Seven (9407) votes while his closest contender, Moses Attan of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) got eight thousand seven hundred seventy one (8,771) votes.
Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate Pascal Amuriat garnered 125 votes in the Thursday by- election.
Christine Eyu, the Soroti City returning officer revealed that the total number of votes cast for all candidates was 18293, while spoilt votes were 107.
The election was characterized by tight security, raids and arrests of FDC members, including the party president Patrick Amuriat.
The election was also marred by massive allegations of ballot stuffing.
