The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has approved a 6% indexation of the applicable tariff effective July 1, 2022.

Indexation is a system or technique used by organizations or governments to connect prices and asset values.

This is done by linking adjustments made to the value of a good, price of a service, or another specified value to a predetermined price or composite index.

Indexation can be done to adjust for the effects of inflation, cost of living, or input prices over time, or to adjust for different prices and costs in different geographic areas.

A July 5 internal memo by the Director Commercial, George Okol, revealed that in accordance with statutory instrument No. 50 of 2018 the Board, NWSC approved the indexation of the tariff by 6% for the various customer and consumption categories.
He asked the staff to update the new tariffs.

“In accordance with Statutory Instrument No.50 of 2018, the NWSC Board of Directors at its meeting held on the 24th June 2022 approved a 6% indexation of the applicable tariff effective 1 July 2022. The detailed Tariff structure is hereby attached. This, therefore, is to request you to update the tariff tables in the billing system to reflect the new rates effective 1st July 2022,” the letter read.

He noted that for Bulk Water Supply, the tariff shall be levied on authorized operators who will re-sell the water to consumers through a piped water distribution network.

“It shall be determined by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation depending on the area of supply, but shall not exceed 3,345 shillings per cubic meter,” he said.

He requested the General and Area Managers to take note and ensure smooth implementation.
