Investigator’ Editor Stanley Ndawula Charged with Disturbing Kayihura’s Peace

‘The Editor of online news publication ‘Investigator’, Stanley Ndawula who was arrested last week over offensive communication has Monday been charged for disturbing the peace of Police boss Gen. Kale Kayihura.

Ndawula appeared before the City Hall Court in Kampala on Monday afternoon. He was later granted bail.

Stanley Ndawula and his brother Robert Ndawula were both arrested and detained at Kira Road police station following an article published on the news website about Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura.

According to the charge sheet by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mike Chibita, the two were accused of having an intent to defame the IGP in an article in which it was purported that the police boss was murdering his own officers.

The article was titled “Civil Rights Activist Pens Down an Open Letter to Gen Kayihura Every Uganda Should Read.”

The letter alleged that Kayihura had “resorted to killing his own police officers as a way of covering his crimes.”

Police say the story was false and that it caused hatred, ridicule, contempt and damaged the reputation of the IGP.

Stanley’s brother, Robert Ndawula is accused of disturbing Kayihura’s peace and privacy by posting stories on Facebook that the latter had been arrested and his house cordoned off by the military.

Kayihura would days later refute the claims as untrue and that he was working normally. In a statement released days later, the IGP said that his home was never under siege by the army.
