The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flagbearer in the Omoro County MP race, Andrew Ojok, has paid a curtsey visit to the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among.
Ojok was accompanied by Hon Ogwang Ogwang and Hon Anite Evelyn.
“My son (Ojok) called on me this morning in my office. We discussed how to ensure our brother’s vision for Omoro is achieved,” Among said after the meeting.
She also met a team of leaders from Omoro District and discussed the development priorities of the area and “how we can move forward to complete the works that our brother Jacob (RIP) initiated in the District”.
Ojok is a son of deceased Speaker Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah who was also the MP Omoro County.
The Omoro race is already gathering attention with opposition political parties also throwing their hats in the ring.
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party members Terrence Odonga (a former Gulu District engineer) and Denis Dick Owani (a professional accountant) have already expressed interest in the seat.
Godwin Okello, an Independent, but FDC-leaning candidate has also expressed interest.
National Unity Platform (NUP) has issued a memo calling upon its members to express interest in the race.
NUP presented Secondo Okot Abok as its flag bearer in the 2021 contest while Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party fielded Julius Okello Opira. It is not clear if these two will return.
The electoral commission set May 26 as the date for the by-election.
