Makerere Suspends 8 Students over Mitchell, University Hall Clashes

Makerere University has suspended eight (8) students for participating in violent clashes, which contravene the Makerere University Students Regulations.

During its meeting held on 7th March 2022, the University Management received a report from the Dean of Students on the violent clashes between Mitchell and University Hall residents, which occurred around 3:00 am on Sunday 6th March 2022.

Management noted that several Mitchell and University Hall residents staged illegal roadblocks in the wee hours of the night.

They broke over 150 windowpanes across 91 windows at both Mitchell and University Halls.

Further assessments are ongoing to determine other University properties destroyed in the altercation.

Prof Henry Alinaitwe, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, signed the letters suspending the students with immediate effect until further notice, and subject to the outcome of the investigations.

They are; Zekelea Sengendo (Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resource, and Bio-Security), Yunusu Lubega (Engineering, Design Art, and Technology), Raymond Ocheng (School of Law), Joel Mujulizi (Humanities and Social Sciences), Collin Chemonges Musiime (Engineering, Art and Design), David Mutesasira (Computing and Information Sciences), Luzze Muhammad (Humanities and Social Sciences), Luzige Kizito (Health Sciences).
