Uganda National Roads Authority [UNRA] on Friday temporarily closed Kazinga Channel Bridge for the commencement of full depth replacement of the Rubirizi -side approach deck along the Kasese—Katunguru—Ishaka road will commence 14th March 2022.
Works include the reconstruction of the bridge deck and this will result in closure of the road at Kazinga Channel bridge.
The Kasese–Katunguru – Ishaka road will therefore be closed from  14th March, 2022 to 27th April 2022 to facilitate civil works
“A temporary ferry has been availed to enable crossing of ONLY light vehicles,” UNRA said in a statement.
The ferry will be able to carry 08 vehicles (Saloon cars, Pickups and Mini-vans or Taxis) and passengers not exceeding 80 per crossing.
Due to the size and capacity of the ferry, UNRA advised other vehicle categories to use alternative roads.
Road users from from Kampala to Kasese via Mbarara will use Kampala—Mbarara—Ibanda—Kamwenge—Fort Portal—Kasese road.
Those from Mbarara to Kasese will use Mbarara—Ibanda—Kamwenge—Fort Portal—Kasese road.
Vehicles from Mpondwe to Mbarara or Kampala via Mbarara will use Mpondwe—Kasese—Fortportal— Kamwenge—Ibanda—Mbarara and Kampala.
Those from Mpondwe to Ishaka or Kabale/Katuna via Ishaka will use Mpondwe—Kasese—Fortportal—Kamwenge—Ibanda—Mbarara then Ishaka and vice versa on return journey.
Those from Kampala to Kasese via Fort Portal, UNRA said these are not affected and the usual travel route will be used.
