The High Court in Masaka has set Tomorrow October 21 as the new date for hearing the bail application for MPs Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West and Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North.

The MPs are being charged with murder, attempted murder, aiding and abetting terrorism.

The duo were granted bail by the Masaka high court before they were re-arrested, and slapped with fresh murder charges.

The MPs through their lawyers of Lukwago and Company Advocates, and Malende and company Advocates, applied for bail, on grounds that they were seriously ill, inadequate medical attention in prison where they were remanded, having fixed places of abode and that they are willing to abide by the bail terms, among others.

However, the new Masaka High Court judge, Lawrence Tweyanze declined to hear the MPs’ bail application on grounds that the first application was heard by a different judge.

Tweyanze, asked judge Victoria Nakintu to handle the bail application because she presided over hearing of the initial application.

Nakintu referred the matter to the Principal Judge, Dr Flavian Zeija for guidance.

In his letter dated October 13, the principal judge wrote to Justice Tweyanze and fixed Thursday 21 as the date for the bail hearing.

Prosecution contends that the MPs and others participated in the recent spate of killings which left over 25 people dead, in the Greater Masaka sub region between the months of July and August this year.
