The Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago as well as the Soroti Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Anna Adeke Ebaju have taken oath to serve on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party’s top organ as Deputy Presidents for Central region and Eastern region respectively.
The two were nominated and approved by the FDC National Executive Committee (NEC) after a process provided for by the party Constitution as revealed by the party Spokesperson, Ibrahim Semujju Nganda.
Lukwago who recently joined the party ahead of the concluded 2021 general election comes in to replace a longtime party leader, Joyce Nabossa Ssebugwawo who the party lost to the ruling NRM party after she was appointed to serve in a cabinet position.
Lukwago expressed gratitude for having been entrusted to serve on the party’s top organ promising to use his expertise and abilities to contribute to the growth and development of the party.
“I promise to serve to the best of my abilities, I will uphold the values of the party and I promise to make my humble contribution to elevate the party to another level. I am confident that I will do my best using the principles of the party as a guiding tool in the execution of my duties,” Lukwago noted in his acceptance speech after taking oath.
Lukwago revealed that he is set to engage other party leaders with the aim of crafting a campaign that will aim at building bridges and synergies with other change seeking agents including but not political parties, civil society organisations and democracy seeking individuals.
“Now that I have arrived at the party top decision-making body, we shall chat a way forward to build synergies with other political players and civil society organization because they all matter in building democracy in the country,” Lukwago said.
On her part, the sworn-in East African region Vice President, Anna Adeke Ebaju appreciated the party leaders for entrusting her to serve her party.
“It’s a privilege for me to serve in this capacity of the Deputy President of the FDC; I unequivocally accept the position and thank the President for putting trust in me, I pledge to work with you to mobilise across the country,” Ebajju said.
Other leaders that have sworn in today include; Hassan Kaps Fungaro for Ag. Secretary Mobilization, Dan Muwonge for Ag. Secretary to the Presidency, Steven Ochola- Deputy Secretary for Mobilization, George Okolle- Deputy Secretary for Mobilization Northern Region, Suzan Nanyonjo- Deputy Secretary for Culture, Religion and Ethics, Moses Mugisha- Deputy Secreatry for Africulture, Samuel Mako- Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs among others.
