“With great sadness, we at Next Media Services announce our terrible loss of a colleague, Sheilah Nakabuye, who passed on this 17th May, 2021 morning at Mbarara Referral Hospital,” announces NBS.

“Nakabuye, who served as our Bureau Chief for Southwestern Uganda, had on 15th May, 2021 delivered a baby girl but gone into a coma after that,” adds the station.

She underwent a cesarean section but would later reportedly develop conditions that resulted into blood spilling in her brain.

NBS has described her as a hard worker whose positivity shall greatly be missed.

The deceased has been instrumental in the advancement of social justice and democratic values through her journalistic work.

Reports indicate that her father a one Mzee Matovu has also been rushed to hospital in an unconscious condition after hearing about the death of his daughter.

Nakabuye’s last post on twitter was on Saturday when she condemned the Israeli airstrikes that destroyed a high-rise building in Gaza City that housed offices of Al-Jazeera, Associated Press, and other offices and residential apartments and left dozens dead and hundreds injured.

“Killing with impunity shouldn’t be allowed by the international community,” Nakabuye wrote on twitter on Saturday.

Burial is today at Kabasanda in Mpigi District at 5pm.

Several journalists and colleagues have since described her as loving and hardworking person who wished well to everyone.

Aisha Zaid, a journalist said, “May Allah comfort our hearts and the relatives naye banange tufiriddwa nnyo. She has been good, loving and caring to everyone.”

Hamza says, “Dear Sheila, a stellar example of a self-sacrificing being, we shall forever cherish the memory of her active participation on this forum (Muslim Journalists WhatsApp group).”

Kassim Kayira, a veteran Journalist says, “To imagine that she’d be collecting mabugo for anyone who loses a relative and now it’s her we are collecting for! May Allah grant her jannat and forgive her shortcomings.”

Samson Kasumba, a colleague at NBS says, Sheila you always smiled as you told your stories. With so much passion and detail. You brought yourself into the heart of others and felt their pain. Now because you attempted to have a child you are dead? How are we supposed to accept that?”

Kaggwa Njala, her colleague at NBS says, “A sweet voice has rested. RIP my Sheila. You journeyed well. It’s heartbreaking.”

Nakabuye is the second journalist to pass on in Uganda in a space of only three weeks after the gunning down of Robert Kagoro working with Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) at the end of April.
