Don Wanyama Replaces Robert Kabushenga As Vision Group Managing Director
Senior Presidential Press Secretary to President Yoweri Museveni, Don Wanyama has been appointed the new Managing Director/CEO of Vision Group, according to Barbara Kaija, the editor in chief of the Vision Group newspapers.
Kaija used twitter to reveal that “the Chairman of Vision Group, Mr Patrick Ayota, has announced the decision of the Board to appoint Mr Don Wanyama as Managing Director/CEO of the Company.”
Wanyama replaces Robert Kabushenga who resigned from the position after 15 years at the end of January this year. He said he had asked the board for permission to retire early but he was to stay on for 90 more days to oversee the transition of his successor.
Don Wanyama is a trained teacher and journalist. He first ventured out as a teacher of English Language and Literature in English before joining the media (The New Vision) as a sub-editor. He then moved to the Daily Monitor newspaper in 2008 where he grew from a deputy chief sub-editor to chief sub-editor before being appointed managing editor in May 2013. He would later be relieved of his duties at Daily Monitor after publishing an opinion poll allegedly in favour of President Museveni.
He is expected to be unveiled to the team at the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate in the next couple of days.
The Vision Group which is owned by the Ugandan government and by institutional and individual investors, was established in 1986, with the flagship publication, the New Vision Newspaper with William Pike as the company’s first Managing Director.
The conglomerate owns a number of subsidiary companies including newspapers, television stations and radio stations like Bukedde FM, Radio West, X FM, Radio Rupiny among others
Wanyama, like Kabushenga, previously worked at both Daily Monitor and New Vision, went into government service, before returning as CEOs.
New Vision was first led by William Pike from its birth in 1986 to 2006 when Kabushenga took over.
