Members of Parliament who against presidential age limit amendment are likely to face suspension from the house over their conduct in Parliament on Tuesday.

The legislators rose up after the Speaker called for the motion by Igara East MP, Raphael Magyezi to seek leave to introduce a private members bill aimed at amending Article 102 (b).

This was not tolerated by the MPs coalition against Age limit removal who took to the floor calling on the Speaker to consider a motion by Hon. Patrick Nsamba of Kasanda North seeking leave to introduce a Private members’ bill calling on government to constitute a Constitutional Review Commission to come up with all amendments to the Constitution wholesomely.

This caused a standstill in the house for a couple of minutes as opposition members of parliament sang the National Anthem.

The speaker was later seen noting down names of some errant legislators before forcefully adjourning the House.

Commenting on the situation, the Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa noted that what the opposition members portrayed in the house was so embarrassing and a bad image to Parliament.

“They defied the Speaker on the matter of decorum; we need to see some people suspended from the house,” Nankabirwa said.

“We can’t allow a coup; you have seen the discipline we have shown and we will maintain it to show the difference.”

Nankabirwa added that she is certain the opposition will run out of tactics and the rules of procedure of the house will prevail at the end of the day.

However, opposition MPs have still vowed to defy any suspension that might be passed to their members by the Speaker.

“Suspension isn’t a new thing, I have ever been suspended, we want the Speaker to be cautious, we know she is an NRM member but we are from opposition,” noted Odonga Otto.
