The Mufti of Uganda His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje has challenged Muslim Community to stop labeling believers of other religions as pagans.
Mubajje said this on Thursday while attending the thanksgiving ceremony of Slajji Mbide, son to late Hajji Mustafa Lugasa, a resident of Ishongororo I, Kakinga ward in Ibanda district.
According to Mbide, the thanksgiving which took place in his new home was to appreciate Allah for curing the kidney failure he suffered for so long while in India.
“I planned to thank Allah today for the good health he blessed me with but also for enabling me construct a good house and educate my son who graduated at Kyambogo recently despite all the sickness and huddles I went through” he told guests.
In his remarks, Mubajje revealed that in 2002, religious leaders started an organization of Interreligious Council of Uganda for purposes of sorting religious related issues.
“I request this love to continue as we serve the people God gave us so that we handle the challenges affecting us all regardless of religious background”.
He further called upon Muslim believers to be united and embrace education towards development.
“This country wants us to educate our children so that it moves forward,” said Mubajje.
Sheikh Mubajje added that religion is a key to Uganda’s success.
“If you believe in religion, it drives you to get money but if you have money without religion, it becomes a problem. So, I encourage you Muslims to unite within your religion” he explained.
At the same function, Northwest Ankole Bishop, Rt. Rev Amos Magezi asked for unity and team work among all religious leaders.
“I request religious leaders to unite and work together to enable our followers emulate the same in their different places of work”
He added that this will solve religious challenges regardless of religious affiliations and work towards a common goal.
Ibanda district Kadhi Sheikh Yusuf Kalule Juma commended Mufti Mubajje for honoring the invitation to attend the thanksgiving function in Ibanda district Muslim community.
He further hailed the Bishop of Northwest Ankole for attending an Islamic function in the district.
“This is an indication that differences in religion are nolonger an issue now but a symbol of working together,” Juma said.
