Kampala city tycoon and former motor rally champion, Charles Muhangi is dead, according to Police.
Police confirmed that Muhangi was found dead on Thursday morning at his home in Buziga, Makindye Division near Kampala.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the death in an interview with SoftPower News.
“What I can confirm is – he is dead,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
“We got information that he could not wake up. Family members were the first to know this,” he added.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said that arrangements were on course to transfer Muhangi’s body from his residence to the city mortuary at Mulago hospital for postmoterm.
Asked on the cause of death, ASP Owoyesigyire said: “I can not confirm the cause of death”.
The former motor sport driver is remembered for having made a name in the sports sector as well as boosting the sport in the country. He owned a sports club ‘Horizon FC’ which was based in Kabale district.
At the time of his death, Muhangi was involved in a bitter fight over ownership of commercial buildings in the city centre.
The wrangle was between the three businessmen Mansur Matovu, alias Young, Drake Lubega and Muhangi which led to the closure of seven commercial buildings were the two noted that they did so to protect their buildings from being illegally taken over by Muhangi.
The buildings that were under contestation include; Qualicel building and Nabukera Plaza.
Muhangi who was also owner of the Horizon Coach bus company had requested the businessmen to peacefully vacate the said premises since he had defeated them before court.
