Amb. Richard Kabonero Tumusiime, the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to Tanzania today, Tuesday 1st August 2017 presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. John Joseph Pombe Magufuli, President of the United Republic of Tanzania at State House, Dar-es-Salaam.

After presenting the Letters of Credence, H.E. Magufuli welcomed Amb. Kabonero to the United Republic of Tanzania and congratulated him upon his appointment as Uganda’s High Commissioner.

H.E. Magufuli informed the High Commissioner that he has an excellent working relationship with H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda who also studied and lived in Tanzania for many years.

The President underscored the importance of continued strengthening of the excellent bilateral relations between Tanzania and Uganda.

President Magufuli emphasized the fact that Tanzanians and Ugandans are blood brothers with the two countries having shed blood for each other.

The President, therefore, noted that the High Commissioner is indeed at home and should feel free to contact him on any matter of mutual interest.

The President also said Amb. Kabonero has arrived at a time when H.E. Museveni and himself are set to launch the important project for the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) from Hoima in Uganda to Tanga Port in Tanzania scheduled to take place in Tanga on 5th August 2017.

This project is a lucid demonstration of the good cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania and will go a long way in providing impetus to economic growth of the two countries.

On his part, Amb. Kabonero appreciated H.E. Magufuli for welcoming him to the country and said he looked forward to working very constructively with him to advance the good relations that exist between Uganda and Tanzania.

Ambassador Kabonero arrived in Dar-es-Salaam on Monday and was accompanied by Mr. Oscar J. Edule/Counsellor and Ms. Janat Najjuma/Third Secretary, both officials of Uganda High Commission in Dar-es-Salaam.

He was received at State House by the State House Comptroller in a colourful ceremony.
