A section of Members of Parliament (MPs) have appealed to the Deputy Governor, Bank of Uganda, Louis Kasekende and other officials to step aside to allow the IGG carry out investigations over alleged illicit accumulation of wealth.

This comes after details from the declaration of income, assets and liabilities forms at IGG linked senior Bank of Uganda officials to a number of properties in upscale areas of Kampala, Wakiso and other areas.

Addressing a news conference at Parliament the Member of Parliament for Nwoya county, Simon Oyet and Ngora county MP, David Abala said that the implicated group in Bank of Uganda should step aside to avoid interfering with the investigations using their positions.

“Kasekende joined Bank of Uganda in 2015 but now his asset wealth is more than Shs 10bn plus. His property and the source of revenue are questionable. We demand that he is investigated and during this period, he must step out of office,” Oyet said.

Abala said that these officials should not fear to be investigated and when found with no case, should be cleared.

“Why would someone fear to be investigated and then cleared? Let those supposed to do investigations go ahead without being interfered with,” Abala said.

However, reports indicate the deputy governor, Louis Kasekende listed his source of wealth to gratuity payments from the Central Bank, African Development Bank and the World Bank were he has been working.

One of the declarations of income, assets and liabilities forms filled by Dr Kasekende shows that he owns property worth about Shs8 billion in upscale areas of Kampala, Wakiso and other areas.

He is also a shareholder of Green Hill schools, a farm in Bukasa valued at Shs 500 million and several commercial buildings which fetch millions of shillings in rent per year.
