Bobi Wine Scoffs at Namboole Officials for Cowing to Political Pressure

Musician Bobi Wine has scoffed at the Management of Namboole stadium for cowing to pressure from government to cancel his stadium yet the facility is owned by Ugandans.

It follows a second cancellation of the singer’s ‘Kyarenga’ which initially was scheduled to take place today. The concert would later be called off as it was clashing with a wedding, according to Namboole stadium authorities.

Faced with the new development, the event organizers later settled for another date which happened to be November 9. But Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has since written to Namboole expressing worry that if the concert is held in the stadium on November 9, it would jeorpadize chances of the national football team to qualify for AFCON 2019 finals. They say that the standard of the pitch will be compromised.

As such, the Managing Director of Namboole, Jamil Sewanyana has now cancelled the concert.

In response, Bobi Wine lashed out at the Management of Namboole and accused them of being used for dirty political games.

“As shameful as this is, I am not surprised. You need to talk to any of the administrators at Namboole and see the amount of pressure they have been under from the regime not to host us,” Bobi Wine said on his Facebook on Saturday.

“Many of them have been receiving threatening calls every after a few minutes”.

Nonetheless, he did not have kind words for them. He told them off that the positions they hold are public positions and thus must never use them against the people.

“To the administrators of Namboole stadium, officials of FUFA and others who are used in these kinds of dirty games, please know that Ugandans are watching,” the singer said.

“No matter how much pressure you get from the regime, always do your job without fear or favor. Namboole belongs to Uganda. It is not private property”.

Bobi Wine whose emergence as a formidable opposition politician has pitted him against government in recent months, wondered how Museveni’s government would be scared to the point of worrying about Ugandans meeting for a music show simply because it is hosted by himself.

Bobi Wine says that the frustration towards his concert is not just an attack on him but all Ugandans and other artistes.

“It is an attack on all of us. It is an attack on music, on the arts, on business, on free expression and on our livelihood as citizens”.

He says that he is weighing different options regarding the venue for ‘Kyarenga’ concert and that he will communicate to his fans in due course.
