Former Director of Police Crime Intelligence, Col Atwooki Ndahura has Friday been remanded to Makindye Military barracks until July 13, following weeks of detention.

Col Atwooki who appeared before the Unit Disciplinary Committee of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), is according to army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, accused of interfering with the process of law, contrary to Section 166 of the UPDF Act 2005.

The law provides that a person subject to military law, who unlawfully interferes with the process of law as set out in the Act, commits an offence and is, on conviction, liable to imprisonment not exceeding seven years.

Ndahura was recalled by the Military in March this year before arresting him on June 11 from Masindi. It is alleged that he committed several crimes during the time when he headed Police Crime Intelligence Directorate.

His wife Sarah Ndahura, had earlier petitioned the High Court to order the Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI ) and the Attorney General (AG) to have her husband produced in court immediately, which Justice Musa Ssekaana, of the civil division of the high Court agreed and ordered UPDF to produce him to court on July 2.

Col Atwooki Ndahura, is one of the top security officers who were arrested alongside former Police Chief Kale Kayihura, over several crimes committed under his leadership including espionage and repatriation of refugees to a neighbouring country.

Others include Nixon Agasirwe and former commander of the disbanded flying squad, ACP Hebert Muhangi.
