President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is among 20 people set to receive national medals during Uganda’s 64th Independence Day celebrations on October 9, 2026, at State House Entebbe.
The list was confirmed by Hajjat Zamina Malole, Chancellor of the Presidential Awards Committee in the Office of the President.
President Museveni will receive the Order of the Commander-in-Chief (Uganda Prisons Service Medal) in recognition of his leadership and contribution to peace and security.
According to the Presidential Awards Committee, the medal is awarded to heads of state and heads of government in recognition of visionary leadership and their contribution to peace and security in Uganda, the East African region and Africa.
The award is provided for under Section 3(2), Second Schedule, Part I of the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001, as amended.
The medals will be presented during the national celebrations marking Uganda’s 64th anniversary of independence from British colonial rule.
The October 9 celebrations will be held at State House Entebbe under the theme “Embracing Our Sovereignty with Hope and Visionary Leadership.”
